Lil B’s God’s Father

lil-b1-590x394

Well, Lil B’s back once again with another mixtape, this time titled God’s Father (as you’ll see above, it doesn’t contain any asinine Kabuki themes in the artwork), and, at least by what I’ve been reading around, this one should be taken a little more seriously than White Flame and the myriad scrap work he’s be throwing out since the launch of 2012.

Here’s what Lil B had to say about the project (and also wrote on the cover):

“Lil B is one of the most revolutionary artists in music, all he has to do is walk and they follow.”

Grammatical errors aside, I have to argue back against this statement, as, well, there’s nothing really revolutionary about Lil B. It’s your run-of-the-mill hip-hop. Just because you title your album “I’m Gay” doesn’t mean you’re revolutionary. Whatever though.

Mos Def Returns to Music as Yasiin Bey

yasiin-bey-niggas-in-poorest-450x484_jpg_627x325_crop_upscale_q85

Just in time for last month’s Martin Luther King Day, Yasiin Bey (the MC formerly known as Mos Def) released the first track in his Top 40 Underdog series, the socioeconomically-minded “Niggas In Poorest”. Now, on the 47th anniversary of Malcom X’s assassination, Bey has unveiled the track’s self-directed music video.

The crux of the clip focuses on Bey laying the track down, either with his back turned to the camera in a studio or standing defiantly in front of a mural. Interspersed between the performance shots are random clips, including footage from Saddam Hussein’s trial, Bernie Madoff being arrested, a speech from the aforementioned Malcolm X, and, interestingly enough, a scene from Pootie Tang. Watch the video below and tell us what you think.

Rack City Grandma

While video girls may get a bad rap for usually being scantily clad and dancing inappropriately, I think we can all agree that Frank’s grandma keeps things tasteful and has more than enough attitude for the two of them.

Conscious Daughters Rapper Special One Dies

karrylsmith

Karryl Smith, more popularly known as rapper Special One of Oakland’s Conscious Daughters, died suddenly on Saturday.

Special One was found dead in her home on Saturday, MTV News reported. According to her sister and other half in Conscious Daughters, Carla Green, the cause of death is unknown at this time.

“Thank you to everyone for your prayers I need them,” Green posted on her Facebook page following news of Special One’s death. “I am sick over the loss of my sister. The cause of death is still unknown but I will try to share info when I get it. Pray for me and Karryls other sisters Jessica and Tonya. We are all together trying to get through this.”

Conscious Daughters, also known as CMG, were a breakthrough rap group based out of East Oakland in the early 90′s Bay Area hip-hop scene. Popular tracks like “Somethin’ to Ride to (Fonky Expedition)” and “We Roll Deep” led the group to rise to fame with their debut album “Ear to the Street” in 1993, which made it to Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Top 25 shortly after.

Lupe Fiasco – “Friend Of The People” Free Mixtape

Lupe_Fiasco___Friend_Of_Lasers_by_RobertHenry

After selling out last year (and blaming his record label) on what turned out to be an incredibly disappointing “attempt” at making music, Lupe Fiasco is back with another disappointing “attempt” at making music and the follow up to last years (wish he never made it) Lazers.

This one is somewhat worse, but we’re wondering who he’s going to be blaming this time. Also check out this stellar review of his new album (and i suppose) oeuvre in general.

“I had the chance to meet Frank. It was great. He’s young. He has so much to give the world. He just so many great ideas. Some of his lyrics, I undnerstand them a little too well. I’m a fan. I’m just happy to work with him.”

Amber Rose wants to marry Wiz Khalifa

Amber

Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa are always quick to show their love for one another. Whether it’s kisses on the red carpet or something as simple as pets names on Twitter, these two are in love.

So it was no surprise to us when Amber Rose told us that Wiz Khalifa will be the father of her child. Amber Rose exclusively told GlobalGrind, “I want to be a mom really bad. I really want babies. I’ll be 28 in October and my maternal instinct is ready.”

When we asked her if Wiz will be the father she gushed, “Yeah absolutely!”

Amber Rose also talked to us about marriage, rumors and all the attention she gets. Check it out:

Amber Rose On Planning To Marry Wiz Khalifa:

“We’re definitely going to get married and have babies. Not right now because we’re still busy and we still want to enjoy each other first. We want to go on vacation, travel and just enjoy each other company, but he’s definitely the one. We’re definitely going to lay it down and get it done.”

Amber Rose On The Rumors and Lies:

“Worst thing I read about myself, are the countless rumors that are just made up off the top of someone’s head. They don’t care about my life or my livelihood. They were just like ‘Oh there’s nothing going on in the world, let’s make up something about Amber, post it and everyone in the world believed it.’”

Amber Rose On All The Attention:

“I do not like attention at all. I don’t like to be out there. It seems like that because the paparazzi follows me and I’ll get photographed, but I’m always kind of like really low key and they just catch me. I always try to go another way so I’m not bothered or out there. I’m really shy.”
